Independent Contractor
What is it? A person who is hired to perform certain duties or deliver certain goods. An independent contractor differs from a regular employee in that an independent contractor is not under the direct control of the employer and does not receive employee benefits such as health insurance. The employer has the right to accept or reject the independent contractors final goods or services, as well as to approve work at specified stages. The IRS and other government agencies use different factors to determine whether a worker is an independent contractor or an employee; employers can face tax penalties if they misclassify a worker.Added By: Riley
