Institutional Shareholder
What is it? Organizations that trade large volumes of securities. They includemutual funds, hedge funds, pensions, insurance companies, trusts, banks, and governments. Because they buy and sell millions of dollars in securities, institutions often get reduced brokerage commissions and up-to-the-minute notices on changes in analyst research reports. Some investors pick stocks that have a high degree of institutionalownership. It?s no guarantee that the stock is a good bet, but at least some professionals who have carefully studied the company think so. For that reason, institutional ownership tends to boost a stock?s price.Added By: Mackenzie
