Nikkei Stock Average
What is it? The most widely quoted Japanese stock market index. The Nikkei is calculated by Nihon Keizai Shimbun, parent of the major business newspaper of the same name. (Nikkei is short for Nihon Keizai, which means Japan business.) The Nikkei shows the average price for 225 issues, weighted in much the same way as the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The companies that make up the Nikkei are chosen to reflect the overall performance of the Japanese stock market.Added By: Landon
