Bodily Injury

What is it? Bodily injury liability insurance coverage protects you against financial loss (including the cost of your legal defense), when you are found legally responsible for injuring other people in an automobile accident. Liability insurance for bodily injury pays for the medical treatment, rehabilitation, or funeral costs incurred by another driver, his or her passengers, passengers in your car, and pedestrians. It also pays legal costs and settlements for non-monetary losses -- i.e., pain and suffering. Keep in mind, bodily injury liability coverage does not pay for any of your medical expenses, loss of income or pain and suffering resulting from an accident. Liability (BI) and property damage (PD) together are often referred to simply as liability insurance. Most state laws require that all drivers carry liability insurance or offer other proof that they are financially able to pay any damages for which they might be found liable.
